#Roadrunner Tuesday a success

Every gift was doubled because of a grant from the Colorado Department of Higher Education.

The days following Thanksgiving are a springboard into the holiday season – full of food, family and shopping. Since 2012, one of those days – Giving Tuesday – provides a respite from excess and acts as a reminder to the MSU Denver community to give back and support students. On Nov. 29, MSU Denver celebrated giving and philanthropy with its version of Giving Tuesday, aptly named #RoadrunnerTuesday.

"Giving Tuesday is my favorite holiday," says Krista Mortensen, alumni relations intern and spring 2017 graduate. "I am so thankful to those who participated and gave this year, particularly the faculty and staff. It means so much to me to know that as a student and scholarship recipient, I'm being supported."

MSU Denver was presented with a grant from the Colorado Department of Higher Education, titled the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative. This means that every gift made on #RoadrunnerTuesday was matched by funds from the grant – doubling the impact of those who gave generously– to support student scholarships.

All total, #RoadrunnerTuesday brought in $6,017 ($12,034 with the grant) from 81 total gifts, with just over half of the gifts coming from MSU Denver faculty, staff and administrators. Fifty-seven percent of the donations were from Roadrunner alumni, and 11 percent came from new donors.
