An award and an approval

Hats off to the accomplishments of Lorenzo Trujillo, affiliate music professor, and the University’s Traditional Nursing Program.

Lorenzo Trujillo

Lorenzo Trujillo, affiliate music professor at MSU Denver, received the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual gala. The award is given to an attorney over the age of 55 who has made significant contributions to the Hispanic community. Trujillo’s legal background includes being a partner of the Sherman & Howard LLP firm, an in-house counsel at Adams County Public Schools, and a past president of CHBA. He is currently a principle at his own firm, where he works on immigration, employment, estate planning, family and business matters. Trujillo, an accomplished violinist and vocalist, is cofounder of Denver’s Chicano Arts and Humanities Center, the Asociación Nacional de Grupos Folklóricos, the Guadalupe Dancers, and the Southwest Musicians. Read more about Trujillo and CHBA’s annual gala in LaVoz.

Traditional Nursing Program

The Colorado Board of Nursing recently approved the Traditional Nursing Program’s Phase III final report of its four-phase approval accreditation process. Phase IV was submitted in December and is expected to be approved later this spring, which would result in reaccreditation of the program by the board. To remain approved, the program must maintain a 75-percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses. National accreditation requires the program to stay at or above the national average, which is 83 percent. Last spring, an official report revealed the first group of traditional nursing graduates achieved a 96-percent pass rate.
