Advocacy and ASPIRE-ations

Kudos to Brandi Scott, recently elected president of a regional organization helping disadvantaged students.

TRiO Project Director Brandi Scott already helps Roadrunners succeed by administering the federal outreach and student services program here on campus. Now as president-elect of the Association of Special Programs in Region Eight (ASPIRE) professional organization, she’ll help spread program expertise and best-practice throughout the Rocky Mountain and Northern Plains.

A grant-based initiative that came together in the late 1960s, TRiO currently consists of eight programs to identify and build support for lower-income individuals, first-generation college students, and people with disabilities. ASPIRE was later founded in 1976 to “…increase the educational and success opportunities for low-income and first-generation college students though advocacy, professional development and legislative awareness.”

Scott will serve as president-elect for one year before assuming the presidency.
