The top 10 notable MSU Denver news stories from 2016.

When it comes to awarding an Oscar or the Heisman trophy, accounting firms use a scrupulous methodology to tabulate results. Our list of the top 10 stories of 2016 uses no such standards.

Rather, it’s a decidedly non-scientific list of what a small group of marketing and communications professionals consider to be the most notable and newsworthy events, occurrences and developments from the past year.

• President Stephen Jordan, who has led MSU Denver since 2005, announced his retirement in September.
• For the second time, the nation’s first Latina Supreme Court justice, Sonia Sotomayor, visited campus.
• It was a banner year in Athletics. The volleyball team made the NCAA Division II Tournament Sweet 16, the Downtown Denver Partnership presented the Regency Athletic Complex with its prestigious Downtown Denver Award, and the University hosted the NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival.
• MSU Denver opened its doors to its most diverse student population.
• The College of Business earned the AACSB international accreditation, which places it in the top-five percent of business schools on the planet.
• A White House task force stopped at MSU Denver on a national tour.
• After a year of festivities on campus and in the city, MSU Denver’s 50th Anniversary celebration came to a close.
• MSU Denver Professor Carol Jensen’s health survey showed that people who lived downwind from Rocky Flats nuclear plant get sick more often.
• A popular art class brought art to places throughout the Mile High City.
• MSU Denver added two new master's programs—an MBA and a master’s in health administration.
